Our main objectives include:

To assist in the positive development of a youth community and to be committed to supporting and nurturing the needs of individuals.

To provide events and facilities for young people, particularly in the Sumner/Redcliffs/Mt Pleasant area, which are relevant to their needs.

Fuse Youth Centre
Join us every Thursday and Friday after school at Matuku Takotako (Sumner Community Centre), where our doors are open for local rangatahi to relax, connect and have some fun.
Our youth workers create a safe, welcoming space where everyone belongs. Come and enjoy some kai, challenge your mates on the gaming consoles, or play games in the hall, crank up the music, have a dance, or simply hang out and chat. Whatever your vibe, we'd love to see you!
As a local not-for-profit, we're grateful for every enrolment. While grant funding has reduced, your enrolment fees help us continue providing a fun, safe space for our rangatahi. Ngā mihi nui for supporting our kaupapa.
We never want cost to be a barrier, so no young person will be turned away. If payment is difficult, please get in touch—we're always happy to have a kōrero.

Leadership Programmes in Schools
One of the heartbeats of our kaupapa is our in-school youth work and mentoring at Sumner Primary School and Redcliffs Te Rae Kura.
By spending time in our local schools each week, we're able to build genuine relationships with our rangatahi where they learn and play every day. During lunchtime, our youth workers are a friendly, familiar presence—joining in activities, encouraging connection, and supporting school staff wherever we can.
We also run a leadership programme for selected Year 7 and 8 students after lunch, creating opportunities for young people to discover their strengths, grow in confidence and develop the skills to lead with kindness and integrity.
Our youth workers are more than just mentors—they're trusted adults who listen, encourage and walk alongside young people as they navigate the ups and downs of school and life. Through positive relationships, we help rangatahi build resilience, confidence and a strong sense of belonging.
Whether we're supporting students with their passion projects, encouraging them through the William Pike Challenge, or simply sharing a game and a kōrero, every interaction is an opportunity to help young people flourish.
We believe that when rangatahi feel seen, valued and supported, they are empowered to reach their full potential.
Ngā Hui – Community Events
Native Planting @ Taylors Mistake Beach- ongoing project with support from city council & Praxis. What this space for regular planting days the rangatahi can join in on. Next days plannned are August 14th, 21st & 28th 3:30-5:30. Sign ups essential.
Learn to shape a surfboard at the Goat Shed. Facilitated by the creatives, minimal costs and heaps of learning for our local youth - recommended Yr 10 and up. August 29th & 30th. Limited spaces.

Lightswitch
We hope to resume this initiative if more funding is secured. Lightswitch provides counselling for children aged 5 - 18 in the Sumner-Redcliffs community. It was started by Sumner-Redcliffs Anglican Church in July 2020, when it became apparent that there was a need to help local children and young people who were struggling with their mental health.
Since then Hazel has been counselling at Te Raekura Redcliffs School one day a week. Historically, Fuse youth supported a counsellor (Olivia from Headups wellbeing) at Sumner School.
The project is currently operating independently of Shoreline Youth Trust until further funding is acquired.
