In School Work
One of our core projects is in school youth work & mentoring at Sumner Primary & Redcliffs Te Rae Kura.
Our in school visits are designed to engage with the young people of our community by being present in the local schools during lunch breaks and providing activities and offering support to staff where it is needed. We are now running a leadership programme after lunch for selected Yr 7&8 youth. Our youth workers take on a special role as our mentors connect with students, offering a safe space for students to share, learn, and grow. Our visits go beyond just “playing games”, they inspire confidence, build resilience, develop leadership skills and help young minds navigate the challenges of school and life.

Lightswitch
Lightswitch is an initiative to provide free counselling for children aged 5 - 18 in the Sumner-Redcliffs community. It was started by Sumner-Redcliffs Anglican Church in July 2020, when it became apparent that there was a need to help local children and young people who were struggling with their mental health.
Since then Hazel has been counselling at Te Raekura Redcliffs School one day a week. We have recently been able to place another counsellor (Olivia from Headups wellbeing) at Sumner School and hope to continue that service, if funding allows.
The project is currently operating independently of Shoreline Youth Trust until further funding is acquired.
